Edaville Railroad

The "Cranberry Belt Line" in South Carver, Massachusetts

A collection of photographs taken at Edaville Railroad in 1978.

Edaville Railroad was created by Ellis D. Atwood who owned an 1,800 acre cranberry plantation in South Carver, Massachusetts. Mr. Atwood assembled a small collection of two foot gauge equipment from Bridgton & Saco River Railroad in Maine. The railroad was set up for use in harvesting the cranberry bogs but it wasn't long before the five and a half mile loop became a popular tourist railroad, complete with a huge Christmas light display in the winter and a beach for summertime playing.
The Boston and Maine streamline train, the "Flying Yankee", was on static display there from 1957 until 1997. The train was also run with the names the "Cheshire", the "Minuteman", and the "Business Man". To learn more about the Flying Yankee and it's restoration effort visit The Flying Yankee web site.
